Event: Workshop Multi-Sensory Zine Workshop

Saleem Hue Penny, 2023. Courtesy of Sarah Audsley. VISUAL DESCRIPTION: Saleem Hue Penny (him/friend) is a bald, mustachioed Black man, with glasses and a right-sided cochlear implant. He wears a silver floral dashiki, a black t-shirt, and a gold necklace. He is in a brightly lit studio, turned 90° perpendicular to the camera, with a doorframe partially visible in the background. Using a chalk marker, Saleem is adding narrative layers to a large visual poem on dusty-rose-colored butcher paper, mounted on a white wall with thumbtacks and blue painter's tape. A furrowed brow indicates his conviction. A dimpled grin indicates his hope. The image is in color.

ABOUT THE EVENT

REGISTER HERE

Led by artist and activist Saleem Hue Penny, this writing workshop will explore the ways different environments change the art-making process. Inspired by the handmade and playful ethos of our current exhibition Don’t mind if I do, Participants will observe and explore objects as entry points to themes ranging from equity, isolation, & access, to Crip Timerewilding, & remixing. The group will engage with a diverse library of print materials, co-create aspirational statements, and leave with a one-of-a-kind multi-sensory zine. Whether you write every day or once a year, all are welcome! This workshop is for anyone interested in developing their writing practice and learning.
