Accessibility

We welcome all visitors and will make every effort to accommodate guests with various needs. To confirm there are no barriers to accessibility on the day of your visit, please call 312-996-6114 or gallery400@uic.edu.

The entrance to the building is located in a turnaround where visitors may be dropped off right outside the main door. The closest UIC public parking lot is the Harrison Street Parking Structure. For further information regarding parking on campus, please visit UIC Parking Services. Motorist assistance is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, by calling 312-355-0555.

The Gallery has a wheelchair-accessible entrance and elevators. The Art & Exhibition Hall, where we are located, is an older building with numerous documented instances of elevator malfunction. If you experience issues with the elevator upon entry, please notify our staff or building manager Chris Markin (312-413-1001, cmarki1@uic.edu).

Two gender-neutral and wheelchair-accessible restrooms are located on the same floor. While the restrooms are accessible to wheelchair users, the door to the bathroom is not. Visitors who use wheelchairs can request personal assistance with opening and closing the restroom doors at our front desk.

INSIDE THE GALLERY

Personal assistance is provided in the exhibition space by attendants at the front desk. We are more than happy to provide audio description for any visually impaired visitor. iPads are available at our front desk, from which users can access a website with audio descriptions of wall labels, artworks, and other texts included in an exhibition.

We can arrange for a sign language interpreter to be provided through the UIC Disability Resource Center. Contact us for arrangements.

We can provide chairs in the gallery space upon request. Sensory spaces are available in the rear of the Gallery. Please ask the front desk attendant for assistance.
