ABOUT THE EVENT
Join us for a playful exploration of clown performance with a physical comedy workshop! Led by professional clown and performance artist Douglas Grew from ProsArts, we’ll journey through the history of clowning and guide you through the essential principles of clown performance, touching on the emotional depth of pathos and the comedic absurdity of bathos and how these contrasting elements come together to create impactful comedy. You will also dive into the origins of three very distinct clown archetypes – the Bossy Clown, the Cute Clown, and the Character Clown – to uncover how each one brings its own unique personality to the performing arts. Through a series of interactive, hands-on activities, you will have the opportunity to experiment with these archetypes and discover your own comedic style.
Whether you’re a first-time performer or a seasoned pro, this workshop is perfect for anyone eager to unleash their inner performer, discover new skills, and explore the powerful connection between comedy, movement, and emotion.
