Circles and Ciphers invites young people of color to enjoy a screening of a historic film and participate in an interactive, community-building event.
The Spook Who Sat by the Door is based on the book by Chicago author Sam Greenlee. The film depicts the civil rights struggle of the late 1960s and focuses on the issues of resistance and Black militancy. This event will provide a safe space for youth to reflect and discuss the film's themes. Hip-hop peace circles before and after the film will include creative writing, art-making, and political education. Refreshments included. Questions? Email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Please note: This is a youth-led and youth-centered space. Adults accompanying at least one young person are welcome.
