In this noontime lecture curator, writer, and art critic Jurriaan Benschop discusses contemporary artists working in Europe, expanding upon his recently curated exhibition As If, At Home - Artists in Europe. Benschop presents artists with personal relationships to questions about identity, the individual, or the question “What is home?” Others deal in a more abstract way with such topics, or find their motifs in memories, nature, or the history of art. These topics are considered against backdrop of the recent history of Europe, and the changes in its cultural and political climate.

Jurriaan Benschop is Dutch curator, writer and art critic, based in Berlin. He is writing for Artforum International and other magazines. He is author of Zout in de wond (Salt in the Wound, 2016) a collection of essays on contemporary artists working in Europe, Francis Bacon, Graphic Work (2014) and other books. He curated exhibition such as As If, At Home – Artists in Europe, Berlin, 2016, The Appearance, Berlin, 2016, A Painter's Hand, Thessaloniki, Greece, 2015, Geist und Form, Ten Painters from Berlin, Bloomington IN, USA, 2013.
